Years ago it was possible to sneak up to the lighthouse at night. Standing alongside the tower, especially on a misty night, revealed the visual effect of revolving spokes. Like the spokes on an umbrella slowly turning, you could count all 13 beams as steady streams - not as flashing lights. (The gates are locked these days so this view is no longer possible).

Especially interesting when there is a northerly swell running. Waves squeeze through the narrow gap.
